Methodology

How we read gold.

No indicator worship, no secret formula. A fixed order of questions, asked the same way every session, so today's read can be compared honestly against yesterday's.

The hierarchy

Context first. Detail last.

Most losing reads start at the wrong altitude — a five-minute chart deciding a weekly question. We work top down, and each layer must agree with the one above it before it earns any weight.

01

Macro context

Monthly and weekly position. Is gold inside a trending leg, a range, or a corrective phase? Everything below inherits this answer.

02

Market structure

Where has price actually turned? Swing highs and lows define structure; a break of one is information, a bounce off one is confirmation.

03

Level mapping

Supply and demand areas drawn from real reactions, not round numbers. Same drawing rules every session so the map stays comparable.

04

Confirming drivers

Dollar strength, real yields and risk sentiment. These do not generate a view on their own — they support or contradict the one structure gave us.

Invalidation

Every read states where it is wrong.

A view without an invalidation level is an opinion, not analysis. Each brief names the condition that removes the read — a close beyond a defined area, a structural break, or an event outcome that changes the macro picture.

  • Stated before the session, not rationalised after it
  • Defined on closes, not on wicks and intraday noise
  • Reviewed publicly in the weekly recap, hits and misses alike
  • When invalidated, the next brief says so plainly

Risk model

Survival is the strategy.

Gold moves fast around scheduled data. The framework we teach treats exposure as the first decision, not the last one — because the size of a position determines whether a wrong read is a lesson or an account event.

  • Fixed fractional exposure, decided before an entry is considered
  • Reduced or zero exposure around high-impact releases by default
  • Correlation awareness — gold, dollar and yields are one exposure, not three
  • Drawdown rules that pause activity instead of chasing it back

What the week looks like

Higher-timeframe reset, the levels carried into the new week, and the scheduled events that could reprice gold.

Monday to Friday — Daily briefs

Session commentary as Asia, London and New York hand over. Structure updates, level reactions and event notes.

Friday — Recap

What we expected against what happened, which invalidations triggered, and what that changes for the week ahead.
